We had a rough 5 day sail to from
the Rio Dulce to Cayman Islands, then a fast run to the entrance to the
Panama Canal. The Shelter Bay marina at the Caribbean end of the canal has a surprising amoiunt of wildlife aroiund, despite being in a semi-industrial area. Noisy howler monkeys, silent sloths and this guy. |
|
After working through the complexities of the paperwork, actually going
through the Canal was straightforward. We went up the three locks in
the evening, then moored in Gatun Lake for the night. The lake is a calm 25 mile run throgh the woods, with freighters passing in both directions |
|
Yachts go through in groups, usually three, along with a freighter that is
not big enough to fill the full length of the locks. |
