2015   Caledonian Canal

Once in Inverness, the weather turned summery, although there was still snow n the surrounding hills in June, which is extremely unusual.
Michael, Ross and Scott Tyler joined us for a while.  They are good company, and of course a help for going through the locks.
The canal was originally built 200 years ago with the usual controversy and gross expenditure of public money, for reasons that were obsolete by the time it was finished.  Today, it is a great tourist attraction and useful for fishing boats and yachts.
We stopped in at Castle Urquhart and Fort Augustus, while enjoying sunshine and a surprising absence of midges.

We sailed through some of the lochs which make up much of the "canal's" length,  but were unable to get a photograph of the monster while sailing through Loch Ness

Sailing past Ben Nevis, we were surprised to see how much winter snow remained in the warm June weather
